The Grand Palace
The spiritual and ceremonial heart of Thailand, the Grand Palace complex covers 218,000 square metres on the bank of the Chao Phraya. Within its crenellated white walls you'll find Wat Phra Kaew — the Temple of the Emerald Buddha — its courtyard ringed with mythical guardians in mosaic armour. The palace buildings themselves, blending traditional Thai and European Baroque styles, represent the finest example of royal Thai architecture anywhere in the country. Plan at least three hours and dress modestly — covered shoulders and ankles are required.
