Thailand

A cluster of limestone islands accessible by speedboat in approximately ninety minutes from Phuket, offering some of Thailand's best snorkelling over vivid coral reefs — immortalised in the 2000 film The Beach.

A forty-five-metre white marble seated Buddha on Nakkerd Hill, one of Phuket's most recognisable landmarks, offering sweeping views across the island from its prominent hilltop position.

The non-negotiable first visit in Bangkok — the most sacred site in Thailand and one of Asia's most extraordinary architectural ensembles, with gold-topped spires, mosaic-encrusted walls, and the revered Emerald Buddha at its heart.

With over fifteen thousand stalls, one of the largest markets in the world — a labyrinth of clothing, antiques, street food, plants, and homeware that rewards hours of exploration in Bangkok's weekend heart.

One of Bangkok's most memorable evenings — long-tail boats ply the central Chao Phraya river past illuminated temples and the Royal Palace, providing a spectacular vantage point on the city after dark.

Travel Essentials

Visa & Entry
UK passport holders receive a free thirty-day visa-exempt entry on arrival in Thailand — no advance application required. A sixty-day exemption was introduced on a trial basis; verify the current duration at gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand before travel, as this policy may be updated.

Money & Currency
Thailand uses the Thai Baht (THB) and remains excellent value for UK travellers. ATMs are widely available in Bangkok and Phuket; always decline dynamic currency conversion at Thai ATMs and choose to be charged in Baht to get the interbank rate. Cards are accepted at hotels and malls; local cash is preferred at markets.

Language
Thai is the official language; English is widely spoken at hotels, resorts, tourist attractions, and restaurants in Bangkok and Phuket. A few words of Thai — khob khun krap/ka for thank you, sawasdee krap/ka for hello — are always warmly received.

Best Time to Visit
November to April is the dry season and the ideal window for Phuket beaches, with calm Andaman seas and excellent snorkelling visibility. Bangkok is pleasant year-round, though March to May can be very hot (35°C+); the cooler months of November to February are Bangkok's most comfortable visiting period.

Getting Around
Bangkok's BTS Skytrain and MRT metro cover most tourist areas efficiently; the Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link connects to the city in thirty minutes. For Phuket, a domestic connecting flight from Bangkok takes ninety minutes; within Phuket, taxis and ride-hailing apps (Grab) are the standard transport. Travel Orbit arranges transfers.

Health & Safety
Thailand is generally safe for UK travellers in tourist areas. No specific vaccination is required for entry, though routine immunisations are advised. Drink bottled water; healthcare is good in Bangkok and major tourist centres but costs for uninsured travellers can be significant — comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Flights to Thailand from the UK are typically one-stop via a Gulf hub (Dubai, Doha, or Abu Dhabi). Fares vary considerably by airline, season, and booking lead time. Emirates, Qatar Airways, Thai Airways, and Etihad are among the main carriers offering competitive fares to Bangkok (BKK) and Phuket (HKT). Contact Travel Orbit for a personalised fare quote — we can combine your flights with an ATOL-protected Thailand holiday package for the best overall value.
May to October (Thailand's wet season) is typically when lower fares are available, as demand from beach-focused UK travellers falls. The dry season (November to April) is peak for Phuket and Koh Samui, so book early for those months. UK Christmas and school holiday windows are the most expensive periods for Thailand flights. Booking eight or more weeks in advance generally gives the best available fare.
Thailand is served from the UK via connecting hubs — there are no direct non-stop flights from the UK. Thai Airways operates via Bangkok (BKK) from London Heathrow. Emirates connects multiple UK airports to Bangkok and Phuket via Dubai. Qatar Airways flies via Doha to Bangkok and Phuket, serving London and UK regional airports. Etihad Airways flies via Abu Dhabi. Travel Orbit compares all routings and combinations to find the best fare for your dates and departure airport.
