Morocco

UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage site that transforms from a daytime market and musicians' stage into an enormous open-air restaurant and entertainment ground each evening — a spectacle unchanged for centuries.

Agadir's seven-kilometre Atlantic beach is a modern resort city's centrepiece, with a calm Atlantic swell ideal for families and beginner surfers and a well-developed seafront promenade.

A day trip from Marrakesh to the Ourika Valley or the Toubkal National Park trailhead brings stunning High Atlas scenery within ninety minutes of the city — snow-capped peaks in winter, wildflower valleys in spring.

A twelve-acre botanical garden designed by French painter Jacques Majorelle and later restored by Yves Saint Laurent — its vivid cobalt blue buildings and exotic plant collection are among Marrakesh's most-visited attractions.

The historic souks of Marrakesh's medieval UNESCO-listed medina are organised by trade — leather, spices, dyes, and metalwork — and the Bahia Palace nearby showcases the finest nineteenth-century Moroccan carved-cedar craftsmanship.

Travel Essentials

Visa & Entry
UK passport holders do not need a visa for Morocco for stays of up to ninety days — entry is granted on arrival free of charge on a valid UK passport. Always verify the latest requirements at gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/morocco before travel.

Money & Currency
Morocco uses the Moroccan Dirham (MAD), a partially convertible currency that cannot be obtained outside Morocco — exchange on arrival at the airport or a city bank. Cards are accepted at hotels and upscale restaurants; local cash is essential for souks, markets, and street-food vendors.

Language
Arabic (Darija dialect) and Tamazight (Berber) are the main spoken languages; French is widely used in business, hotels, and upscale restaurants. English is spoken in tourist areas and hotels throughout Marrakesh and Agadir.

Best Time to Visit
March to May and September to November offer mild temperatures and quieter medinas — the ideal shoulder seasons. August heat above 35°C makes Marrakesh sightseeing taxing; Agadir beach is at full swing but busy. Winter (December to February) brings the lowest fares and Atlas Mountain snow for day trips.

Getting Around
Marrakesh Menara Airport is twenty to thirty minutes from the medina by road; Agadir's airport is twenty-five kilometres from the resort strip. Travel Orbit arranges private transfers on all Morocco packages. Within Marrakesh, taxis and walking cover the medina; day trips to the Atlas Mountains use private cars.

Health & Safety
No vaccinations are required for entry from the UK. Health precautions are standard for North Africa — drink only bottled water (widely available), apply sun protection, and take standard food hygiene precautions in local markets. Travel Orbit recommends comprehensive travel insurance including medical coverage.
